Jun 28 > Melissa Matthews Multi-Media Journalist STEELTON— Steelton-Highspire School District Considers Cutting Gold Coast Bus Services The Steel High School Board is facing a $2.3 million dollar deficit for next school year. “We have to operate, we have to turn on the lights every day for the kids, we can’t shut down. We have to look at everything we do to make sure we keep this school district operating,” said board president Samuel Petrovich. One of the many options the board is looking at has parents fired up: cutting Gold Coast Bus Services to all students, Kindergarten through 12th grade, who live a live and a half away or less from school. “First of all, a mile and a half is way too long for a kindergartner. A kindergartner should not be walking, any kid up to 5th grade should not be walking, ” said Allyson Lewis. The move would save the district around $120,000. No final decisions have been made. The board is also looking at slashing staff members and coaches to cut costs. wpmt-steel-high-bus-services-budget More News from York, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Lebanon |
