Oops, I also wanted to add:I asked about the formaldehyde in the treatment. This is what the stylist told me…the liquid keratin contains formalyn, which is used as a preservative since the keratin is pure protein. Formaldehyde is the gaseous by-product created when the stylist heats the hair. (So technically none of the BKT treatments “contain” formaldehyde, but they’ll PRODUCE it if formalyn is the preservative.)I was expecting huge clouds of evil vapors, but the Global Keratin Treatment itself smelled like jelly beans and when they ran the flat iron over my hair, it produced steam but didn’t smell different than any other time I’ve used a flat iron. I sniffed my hair cautiously when I left the salon, but it doesn’t smell like chemicals. Also, given the formaldehyde issue, I thought they’d put me in some kind of HAZMAT quarantine. They didn’t–I sat in a regular salon chair with a ventilation tube nearby, I didn’t have to take my contacts out, they didn’t put vaseline on my skin, and when I went to the ladies room before they ironed my hair, I quickly sneaked a feel and my hands were fine.
